Of Milwaukee. Passed away peacefully on Monday, April 7, 2014 at the age of 82 years. Beloved husband of Pauline “Polly” (nee Haebler) Van Dyke. Loving father of Kathryn (Douglas Grant) VanDyke, Helen (Brian King) Van Dyke King and Ellen (Ansgar) Holtgers. Proud grandfather of William and Emily Grant, Daisy Talbert and Ansgar Holtgers. Dear brother of Helen “Bemie” Godfrey and Olive “Cissy” Bryson. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will greet friends on Friday, April 25 from 3:00 until 5:00 PM at ST CHRISTOPHER’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 7845 N. River Road in River Hills. Memorial Services will be held at the CHURCH on Saturday, April 26 at 1:30 PM. Interment at Forest Home Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials in William’s name may be directed to MSOE, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the Schlitz Audubon Center or the University School of Milwaukee.
Mr. Van Dyke was a graduate of Milwaukee Country Day School, received his BA from Princeton University and his MBA from Stanford University. He served in the Paymaster Corps of the US Army at Fort Sheridan, Illinois.
Bill was a partner in Harris Upham & Company, a Wall Street brokerage, heading it’s Milwaukee office in the late 1960’s and 1970’s. He played a major role with the firm which through a series of mergers ultimately became Citi Smith Barney. After serving as a Director, Senior Vice-President and Accounts Executive with Smith Barney, he retired in 2008. Bill was a longtime Director of International Flavors & Fragrances, a leading company in the creation of flavors and fragrances for use in consumer products worldwide.
Mr. Van Dyke was a member of the Board of Regents at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, a board member of the Milwaukee Club, the Milwaukee Country Club, the University Club of Milwaukee and the Coleman Lake Club. He received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
Bill loved spending time with his family, traveling, playing golf, fishing and hunting.
