Edward John Capper
February 2, 1925 - July 25, 2014
        

A 54 year resident of Whitefish Bay, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving wife and family on Friday, July 25, 2014 at the age of 89. Ed was born in Milwaukee on February 2, 1925 the son of Charles and Anita Capper. He attended Hartford Avenue Grade School and graduated from Riverside High School in 1942. In 1950, Ed graduated from the University of New Mexico in the College of Pharmacy.

On February 6, 1954 Ed was united in marriage to Dorothy Grimmer, they celebrated 60 years of love this past February. Together they raised nine children, Greg (Elizabeth), Paul (Margaret) & Tim (Gail) Capper, Barbara (Joe) Clements, Mary (Jim) Shaw, Janet (Gabriel) Martinez-Ortiz, John (Lisa) Capper, Julie (Youssef) Azmani and Peter (Becky) Capper. He was the loving grandpa of 34 grandchildren and one great-grandson. Further survived by other loving relatives and friends.

Ed started in Pharmacy as a “soda jerk” and delivery boy in 1941 at Hoffmann’s Pharmacy. He learned the basics of running a pharmacy and serving people from his mentor, Hugo Hoffmann. Ed’s slogans were, “In business for your health” and “Service with a smile”. He ran Hoffmann’s Pharmacy from 1965 until incorporating it with Capper-Wendland Pharmacy on Silver Spring. Many of his customers knew him as Mr. Ed. In his final years, he appreciated his relationship with Fitzgerald Pharmacy. From the time customers were 16 years old until later in life they remained loyal to Ed.

Ed was an avid supporter of the community and was an honorary fan of all the high school athletics. He was honored to be the Grand Marshall of the Annual 4th of July Parade and attended the Business Association meetings with great support for the “small business owner”. For 54 years, Ed was a member of St. Monica Parish, his faith was the center of his life; reciting the Rosary and attending daily Mass was always first on his to do list.

The family will receive friends at the FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday, July 29 from 4 PM until the time of the Rosary at 7PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:30 AM at ST MONICA CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5601 N. Santa Monica Blvd in Whitefish Bay. (Please meet at church) Entombment will be private at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials in Ed’s name may be directed to St. Francis Seminary, 3257 S. Lake Dr. Milwaukee, WI 53235.
