I have known Howard for more than 40 years. We worked together at Hein-Werner back in the 70's. We formed a strong bond of frendship there working in an environment with many strong and often over bearing personalities. We were there for each other, usually united against a common foe, he was some one you could vent to, some one you could count on to give your spirits a lift if you were down or frustrated. Over the years we tried to call each other at least a couple times each year just to connect and talk about whatever, and ocasionally remenise about old times. I am going to miss that a lot.
I know I will miss the stories he told about all the unusual things that happened back when he used to deliver pizzas, and the pizza cars as he called them, four bald tires, maybe the heater worked or didn't, but that never stopped Howie. Howard was an artist when it came to making engineering drawings. I challenged myself to learn to letter like Howard did, and perfect my line technique like his. HCK was what he put on the title block of all his drawings.
As good a work friend and colleague as he was I know I only knew him superficially. I can only imagine what a great husband, father, and grand father he must have been, and how much his family will miss him. He was such a strong and genuine person, loyal to the folks he could put his trust in. One of the people I called special in this world. The only words I have left to express to him is "thank you". To his family, my heart goes out to you, try to take some comfort from knowing he is gone to a better place. Take comfort that his time of suffering is over. Look forward to the possibility that you may see him again someday because surely if there is a god he is with him now.
