October 24, 1962 - May 23, 2015

Gary W. Newlands, age 52, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2015 at AngelsGrace Hospice after fighting a strong, courageous battle with cancer. Gary was born on October 24, 1962 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, and was the son of Bill and Tina Newlands.Gary and his wife, Tricia, met while working on Princess Cruise's "Love Boat." Gary was the loving husband of Tricia, who he married on August 9, 1997, and the devoted and proud father of Martina and Devin. Gary and Tricia traveled the world together...creating lifelong memories. Intrigued by back alley ways in foreign lands, Gary taught Tricia that they were more fascinating than the main streets of the world. From the Great Wall of China, Pyramids of Giza, to the beaches of Aruba, Gary left his footprints all around the world and in the hearts of all.He is characterized as a man of few words---but his words were wise and his dry sense of humor kept many on their toes. Gary's calm demeanor, modesty, patience, strength, courage, and determination earned him the ultimate respect of all who knew him...a friend to all. He has been an outstanding role model for his two children, who he adored. As a man of great physical and noble stature, he significantly influenced his children who highly respected him. His children, Devin and Martina, describe him as caring, kind and fun to play with. Gary was genuine and real. Through his illness, he maintained strength and integrity and continued to attend his children's activities. Gary exhibited great commitment and deep love for his family, who was his priority.A sports enthusiast since a young boy, he actively played hockey, basketball, soccer and baseball. In more recent years, he played in adult hockey and basketball leagues and enjoyed golfing. With great skill and multi-tasking, he maneuvered the remote control, watching eight different sporting events simultaneously, especially the Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Jets, Notre Dame football, Kentucky Wildcats and the Cincinnati Reds. He was an avid reader of murder mysteries and novels.Gary was a valued and dedicated employee at Payroll Data Services in Hartland. Gary is survived by his wife, Tricia (Muehlius) Newlands and daughter Martina and son Devin; his mother, Tina, of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada; his brother Alan (Beth); mother-in-law Elaine Muehlius; sisters-in-law Susie (Jim) O'Connor, Sally Muehlius (Gary Wendt), Mary Muehlius (Russ Wendt) and Margaret Muehlius.
