Dear Tom, I am so saddened to hear about your son, TJ. As you may recall, I used to work with you in West Allis as a fellow speech pathologist. I am now a professional counselor and so I know how extremely difficult it is for parents to lose their children. I want to send you and your wife a card so I would like your address if that is possible. I didn't see one on the e-mail that was issued from the speech pathologist who originally sent the message. The last time I spoke with you was at a retirement party for Pat Culbertson at someone's home probably 7 years ago. Please take care, as well as your wife and daughter, Emily (?). I wish you and yours the most healing and supportive thoughts.

Our deepest sympathies to the Malone family. May your son TJ be at peace now. We are friends of Betty and Steve and know first hand about mental illness. Be easy on yourselves and TJ knows you loved him.

I didn’t know TJ for very long but I did want to share one of my last conversations with him. He shared with me how forgiving and loving his parents and best friend were. He did not have any doubts that he was loved.
No words can express my sadness of his life lost so soon. Mental illness can be deadly as we know. I hope all of his friends and family know that they are not to blame and they did nothing wrong. It is easy to see in hindsight what we might have missed, but in those present moments we all did what we thought was best.
