I am sorry to hear of Jim's passing. He and I attended Homestead High School in Mequon for three years after his arrival in his sophomore year. He soared over almost every one of our classmates and I remember him as a gentle giant as well as a fellow classmate. I did not know until reading Jim's obituary that we shared our birthdate!

We are sorry to hear that a good friend and a great soldier Jim Maitland has passed on.
I have a lot of great memories of his loyalty, hard work, and good humor.
I was telling my wife Tina earlier today about his great knowledge of military history, especially navy ships. The story when his wife Diane bought him a big book about ships, and how he asked her to take it back because he found to many flaws in it. And the one where he was having a conversation with a sailor who sailed on a certain Navy ship, and when talking with Jim about it, the sailor thought Jim had been on the ship too, because Jim knew so many details about it.
We will be praying for the repose of the soul of Jim, and for the strength, peace, and comfort of his wife, family, and friends.
God Bless,

I worked with Jim at Menards. He was such a sweetheart inside and out. We often talked about his time in Vietnam and life in general. I was blessed to receive one of his beautifully crafted pens which I still treasure to this day. He also gave me a handmade spurdle. It is in my kitchen and I use it often and think of Jim every time I do. Please accept my deepest sympathy. Susan Fillmer

Unfortunately, I am not in town and I cannot attend any of the services. I will always remember Jim and his infectious laugh. He was a great soldier and I am proud to have known and served with him. Rest In Peace Jim. You will be missed.
