My condolences to Joel's family. I started following Joel and his books approx. 20-25 years ago. Like Joel and the rest of his staff, I have developed a "Heart For The Charts".
I just happened to glance at the Top Instrumentals on page 867 of the 2005 Hot 100 Annual and that got me started on creating over 100 spreadsheets of my own. Thank you Joel and all that created these great books! Larry.

Joel touched my life in ways few ever have. I have referred to his books every single day since I got my very first copy back in 1972. He set the standard for chart research. We are happy to run a tribute to Joel, with commentary from others who collected his books and used them as collectors' guides and programming tools this weekend. You can find it at forgottenhits60s.blogspot.com.
He was one of a kind - and he will be missed.
Here's hoping Record Research goes on for many more years. Thank you for enriching our lives. It has always been all about keeping the music alive - and we couldn't have done anywhere near as well without you.

My prayers and condolences are with the Whitburn family and friends. Although I never met him personally, he's been "part" of my life for years as I have referred to his books numerous times over the years. Perhaps without knowing it, Mr. Whitburn found a way to unite thousands of people from diverse backgrounds with a common love of not only music but the history of music. That is a great legacy to leave behind. God Bless the Whitburn and Record Research families with comfort and strength. Steve Owens
