Dear Gen,

I remember meeting Steve walking with you near the old Hayeks Drugstore? Maybe thirty years ago, not long before I retired from UWM and we moved home to Colorado. I remember much more precisely when I first met you, more than fifty years ago when as an undergraduate student you lit up my class in African American History. I wish I could have known Steve better and spent time with the two of you over the years. Please take it as a tribute to him that you are locked in my memory with profound respect and admiration.
