Aunt Dina was a fixture of my childhood. So many memories! Sunday dinners with the entire family and all the cousins at Baba's (grandmother's) house and Dina's mince pie. Her showing me her pearl necklace and telling me how a real lady always had to have pearls. Christmas dinners at her home where all of us kids watched cartoons in the living room while the uncles played poker in the dining room and the aunts did dishes and gossiped in the kitchen. With my mom, Ellamay, she told us cousins about growing up on the farm in North Dakota. I remember stories about winters where all they had to eat was boiled grain. I also remember overnights at her home, where she brushed my hair, 100 strokes, and toldvme how I needed to care for my hair as it was my crowning glory. Aunt Dina was a lady, always so well-dressed, so charming, such an elegant hostess. She was what I aspired to be when I grew up.
Rest in peace, Aunty D.
