Carl William Holzbauer
October 19, 1950 - July 26, 2021

Carl William Holzbauer was born October 19th 1950, and he entered the gates of heaven on July 26th, 2021 at the age of 70.

Carl was born in Milwaukee to parents James and Luella (Schueller) Holzbauer. He graduated from Saint John’s Cathedral High School in 1968 and received his certificate in Industrial Electronics from the United Technical Institute in 1969. Carl worked at Badger Transformer for four years prior to joining the family business, Holzbauer & Sons. He was a dedicated and hard-working partner in ownership at Holzbauer & Sons until his recent retirement.

Carl loved music. He was a self-taught guitarist, who performed in a singing group in the early 1970s. It was his love for music that led him to the love of his life, Shelly, who he met in the singing group in 1971. Carl and Shelly were married on June 9th 1973. They lived in Milwaukee until 1984. This marked the completion of their new home in Germantown which he built with the help of his family and friends.

Carl and Shelly raised three children, Steven, David, and Jeffrey. Carl was extremely involved in his kids’ lives. He coached his three sons in baseball and basketball during grade school, and proudly spent countless hours supporting them at grade school, high school, and college sporting events.

He was an avid volunteer in the community. Through the years he served as the Athletic Director and Scout Master at Saint Mary’s Grade School, made key contributions to building the Saint Mary’s Activity Center, built scenery for school plays, made furniture repairs for the church, built the Germantown High School press box for the baseball field and trophy cases for the sports complex, helped his sons and many others with home improvement projects, and the list can go on and on.

Carl’s favorite time of the year was the week spent with his family and friends at Cedar Bay Resort in Presque Isle, WI. He had a boat for over 40 years, and he was an excellent water skier. He also taught dozens of family members and friends how to ski over the years. It was priceless to see the joy on his face when each person got up on skis for the first time behind his boat, the “Blue Bullet”. After fun-filled days on the lake, he and his family made some great memories around the campfire and playing Sheepshead in the cabin.

Carl began his battle with cancer in 2003. However, if nobody told you, you would never know. He was never one to complain. He was extremely tough and was always thinking about others. The family would like to thank the hospitals, doctors, nurses, and other care-givers for giving him more time to have wonderful experiences with his friends and family, including more time with his four grandchildren.

Loving husband of 48 years of Shelly (nee Van Ert). Beloved father of Steven, David (Kristin) and Jeffrey (Colleen). Most adored grandfather of Kensie, Ashlyn, Drew and Dylan. Dear brother of Marilyn, Gary (Joanne), Peter, Mark (Kate), Thomas (Linda) and a very special godfather, William Schueller "Uncle Bud". He is also survived by Shelly's family as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, James and Luella (nee Schueller) Holzbauer, brother Les, sisters Audrey and baby Alice.

Visitation for Carl will be Monday August 2, 2021 at the Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home, N84 W17937 Menomonee Ave., Menomonee Falls, WI 53051, beginning at 3:00pm until the time of memorial service at 6:00pm.
