Sitkiewitz, Donald George
Age 75 of Mukwonago was welcomed home to heaven by his savior Jesus Christ on Friday May 17, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 31, 1937 in Manitowoc to Vernon and Lillian Sitkiewitz. He was a 1956 graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School. Don proudly served our country in the United States Navy from July of 1957 until September of 1962. He married Verna Emma Duveneck on November 30, 1963 in Manitowoc. He worked for Manitowoc Co. in the crane division until his retirement in 1999. Don was a member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Mukwonago.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years Verna. Loving father to son Steven Donald (Sebastopol, CA) and daughter Tracy Lyn (Paul) Anonich (Mukwonago, WI). He was a proud grandpa “Poppy” to Austin Paul, Connor James, and Emma Lynn Anonich. He is also survived by his sisters Judy Hall (Cato, WI) and Carol Balcom (Kenosha, WI). Brother in-laws Carl (Barb) Duveneck (Pine Island, FL) Allen (Betty) Duveneck (Newton, WI) and Kenneth (Rita) Duveneck (Two Creeks, WI). Further survived by Caryn Sitkiewitz (Manitowoc, WI). Don was preceded in death by his mother Lillian, his father Vernon and his dear brother Joel. Donald was also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Don and Verna were lifelong residents of Manitowoc until moving to Mukwonago in 2005. Donny was always active in various sports. He was a high school standout in football, basketball and baseball. He later became very active in the Manitowoc tennis community. A love he shared with Verna. Retirement allowed him more time to golf. He loved golf so much that when he moved to Mukwonago he was hired as a ranger at the Broadlands Golf Club in North Prairie, which was a perfect place for him. Don had many interests but nothing rivaled his three grandchildren. They were the greatest joy in his life and he rarely missed any sporting event, play, recital, or anything else they participated in. He truly loved watching youth sports in the Mukwonago area. He cheered for all the kids and was sometimes known as the “team grandpa”.
Visitation will be held on Saturday May 25, 2013 from 9 AM until 10:45 AM at ST. JOHN’S EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 410 Hwy NN West Mukwonago WI. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM.
