Jerry L. Janssen Of Woodruff, formerly on Mukwonago, passed away Monday, October 13, 2008 in Woodruff. He was 92 years old. Jerry was born in Milwaukee on June 25, 1916, the son of Ralph and Julia Janssen. In 1939, he married Lorraine R. Engel. Jerry served in the Army Combat Engineers at Ft. Lewis, WA., during WWII. He was a 26 year member of the Waukesha Co. Sheriffs Department, the last 12 years as captain. He was the first to hold that position when the undersheriff position went to Civil Service. Jerry was past master of the Laflin Lodge #247 F. & A.M. in Mukwonago and Past Patron of the Hurley Chapter of O.E.S. of Mercer, and a member of the Tripoli Shrine.
After retiring in 1972, he moved to Manitowish Waters, where he was twice president of the Manitowish Waters Lions Club. He also served the town as Assessor, Town Clerk, Sanitation Inspector and Supervisor. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. After 34 years, he moved to Woodruff in 2006. He is survived by his wife of 69 years Lorraine, a daughter Judith (Fred) Purdy, a son Charles (Carol) Janssen, one sister Joan Pisarek of Texas, 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughters Yvonne (Phillip) Kollaszar and Georgiana (Douglas) Klicko, a sister Dolores Hembrook and a brother Raphael Janssen.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Oct. 20, from 10:00 am until the time of a Memorial Service at 10:45 am conducted by the Laflin/St. James Lodge #247 F. & A.M., followed by the Rev. Suellen Myers, all at the Schmidt & Bartelt – Van Valin Funeral Home, 315 Main St. (Hwy. ES), Mukwonago. Burial of Jerry’s ashes will follow at Oak Knoll Cemetery, Mukwonago. The ashes of Jerry’s daughter, Georgiana, who died Oct. 7, 2005, will be interred at this time also.
