Age 97 passed away on April 7, 2021. Born on May 10, 1923, in Germany. Immigrated to the United States at age of six months accompanied by his parents Hermann C. and Ella (Quest) Meyer. The family settled in Nebraska on land owned by an uncle, Herman Sr. who immigrated to the US in 1888. After four years, the family moved to Milwaukee for better job opportunities, also a large German population. The family grew to seven children, two boys and five girls, Herman (Ann), Madge (Rev. Andrew), Millie (Anthony), Dolores (Henry), and Rolf (Marion). Two children, Nancy and Carol died in infancy. Herman attended Jerusalem Lutheran Grade School and Wisconsin Lutheran High School. In 1941 following Pearl Harbor, Herman enlisted in the US Army and was entered in the A.S.T.P. program as a cadet and sent to Stanford University and later Indiana University in Bloomington, IN where he met his lovely future wife Ann Marie Droll. Herman was then sent overseas to the European Theater becoming part of the 7th Army, 14th Armored Division. He was discharged in February 1946 and married Ann in March of 1946. The couple had one daughter, Donna (Michael) Weeks. He would later be blessed with three grandchildren Wendy, Eric, and Joel as well as two great grandchildren. Herman and Ann were married for 46 years until her sudden passing in 1993. After two years of solitary life, Herman met the widowed Mary Stoiber at a Catholic Singles Dance and she became his best friend and companion for 20 plus years. They both loved dancing and traveling. Herman was a member of the Milwaukee Fire Dept. for 36 years and was an active member of the Fire Dept. American Legion Post #426. He loved his job and was known as a story teller. Herman lived life fully with the help of Mary Stoiber and he will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
