Sally Jane Hardy of Milwaukee, formerly of Whitefish Bay, Mequon, and Longboat Key, Florida, departed this life on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at the age of 96.  Sally was born in Chicago on January 12, 1925, the daughter of Rowland Archer and Gertrude Archer née Schlotthauer.  She grew up in Madison, where she graduated from West High School in 1943.  She then attended Groves-Barnhart Business School.

Sally was then employed by the U.S. Armed Forces Institute through the end of World War II.  In July 1945, she met George Hardy, and they were married in April 1946.  While George attended the University of Wisconsin Law School, Sally worked at Manchester’s Department Store.

In 1957, George accepted a position as attorney for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, from which he retired in 1988.

Sally and George moved to Alexian Village of Milwaukee in 2005, where they resided for the rest of their lives.  They were members of the United Methodist Church of Whitefish Bay for more than 50 years and were affiliate members of Christ Presbyterian Church, Longboat Key, while living in Florida.

Sally is survived by her cherished son Mark Hardy (spouse Richard Korthauer), grandson Daniel (Jason) Bennett-Hardy, daughter-in-law Barbara Hardy, and other relatives and friends.  She was predeceased by George, her devoted husband of 74 years; her beloved son Patrick, who died in 1998; and her sister Ellen Lewis, who died in 2016.

Memorial Service Wednesday, July 28th at 2:00 pm at Alexian Village Chapel of the Holy Spirit, 9301 N. 76th Street, Milwaukee. Limited Attendance, Social Distancing, and Masks Required.  

A private committal service will be held at Wisconsin Memorial Park.
