Brigitta Helga Coghlan

Of Milwaukee, passed away unexpectedly on July 30, 2022 at the age of 25.  She is the loving daughter of Michael and Angelika (Fleck) Coghlan, loving sister of Billy Coghlan and Rory Coghlan, caring niece of Gudrun (Fleck) Brit, Mary (Coghlan) Chesser, Joe Coghlan, Paddy Coghlan, and Tõmas Coghlan.  Loving Aunt of Paddy, Brigid and Keira Coghlan. Godmother to Brigid Coghlan.  She was predeceased by her grandmother Helga Demos (Kalytta), grandfather Heinz Fleck, grandmother Bridie Coghlan (Morrissey), and grandfather Tom Coghlan. 

Brigitta loved riding horses, competed in dressage, was a Large Animal veterinary technician at Bristol Veterinary service for 5 years, volunteered as a surgical assistant at Turtle Valley equine hospital and was employed by Chicago Equine Medical Center as a veterinary and surgical assistant.  Brigitta currently worked for Salelytics selling equine pharmaceuticals for Boehringer Ingelheim.  She attended the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and was accepted to the University College Dublin Veterinary Program.   She loved science and studied biomedical science at UWM.

Brigitta spent a lot of time at Silverwood Farms in Camp Lake, Wisconsin, a recognized USDF show facility for equine events.  The family had a horse at the farm, and she enjoyed working the horse shows every summer.  She started working as a runner at the age of 5, was promoted to ring steward at the age of 10 and then as a scorekeeper at the age of 16.  She competed at dressage on her horse Prince Leopold and was recognized for her achievements by the Illinois Dressage and Combined Training Association (IDCTA). 

Brigitta loved Manchester United and was a fan of the Irish rugby team.  When she was in grade school, she was on the swim team in McHenry, IL.  She participated on several travelling soccer teams which included The Chicago Kickers in Lake Villa, IL and the Force in Crystal Lake, IL.  She also played soccer and tennis for Prairie Ridge High School which was also located in Crystal Lake, IL .  In college she was on the UWM girls rugby team.  She danced at the Laura Cote School of dance in Wilmot, WI for 7 years from the ages of 3 to 10.  She also loved her HGTV.

Brigitta was a very giving and caring person.  She was extremely altruistic.  She spent her time volunteering for several organizations such as Partners for Progress, a horse therapeutic Equestrian Center.  She would help lead horses for patients with disabilities for therapeutic purposes.  She also helped to groom and clean the horses.   She regularly volunteered for the Illinois Dressage and Combined Training Association (IDCTA).  She assisted her mother volunteering for the NAWBO Chicago Young Entrepreneurs Academy to help mentor girl students 12-18 years old and participated in the IEEW Peace through Business Program which helped women in the developing countries of Rwanda and Afghanistan to start successful businesses.  Brigitta would help review and evaluate their business plans.  The family would house women from Afghanistan and Rwanda for in-person mentoring.  Brigitta always enjoyed welcoming the women and exchanging cultural experiences. 

Brigitta started as an AVON representative at the age of 10.  She was one of their top performers in sales.     She sold Avon at school and at Silverwood Farm using a toy cash register for cash payments and her father’s cell phone to take credit card payments.  She later started her own video marketing business at the age of 12 creating promotional videos for women business owners.  She was nominated for the Small Business Administration’s Young Entrepreneur Award by the Women’s Business Development Center of Chicago.  

She loved corgis and was looking to adopt a corgi that needed a forever home.  She was going to move into a pet friendly apartment in September of this year so she could fulfil her dream of owning her own Pembroke Corgi. 

Brigitta was a seasoned traveler having visited Europe, Canada, and Mexico.  She went to Ireland the first time at the age of 5 months. The family would go twice a year to visit Ireland and be with family in West Clare on the Wild Atlantic Way. The family was planning a trip at the end of August and Brigitta was excited to be seeing all her cousins and relatives.

Brigitta was a ray of light everywhere she went.  She had a beautiful smile and loved meeting people and was so poised and articulate.  She will be greatly missed by many.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 7th at the Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home (930 Main St, Mukwonago) from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM. Following the Visitation, we will be going St. Theresa Catholic Church (136 Waukesha Rd, Eagle) to celebrate the Funeral Mass at 3:00 PM.
