Colleen Carol Cauley
March 2, 1950 - December 27, 2022

Found peace on December 27, 2022 at the age of 72 after a short illness. Colleen is survived by her beloved longtime partner Tom Szudrowitz, brother Joe Cauley and nieces Tami (Scott) Hermes, Lisa (Steve) Wright, and Niki (Dominic) Petit. She was preceded in death by her father Joseph Cauley, mother Avis (Fossum) Cauley, sister Marie (Cauley) Nelson and brother-in-law Curt Nelson. She is also survived by her nieces’ children Kodie, Adam, Alexis, Hunter, Alain and Lucien and their children Kohl, Vaeda, Daniel, Sally, Madison and Joseph..

Colleen was born in Milwaukee and moved to Green Bay while in grade school. She graduated from Green Bay West High School in 1968, and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. While at the university, she met Robert Moravec, and they  married in 1969. At this point Colleen moved back to the Milwaukee area, where she remained for the rest of her life. Colleen and Bob divorced in 1981 on friendly terms. Shortly afterwards she met Tom Szudrowitz and they remained together through the rest of her life. During these years, Colleen enjoyed vacations to Door County, skiing out West, tennis, softball and spending time with her growing nieces.

Colleen began her work career at Wisconsin Telephone (later Wisconsin Bell) and then moved to First Wisconsin National Bank (now US Bank) around 1984. She advanced quickly and was eventually promoted to Assistant Vice-President. Things looked promising and her career was progressing.

UnfortunateIy, in 1990, Colleen suffered a major stroke, which changed her life in significant ways, and she was forced to let go of her career. Colleen attempted a comeback with the bank in 1992, but the stroke caused too much damage for her to continue in the workplace. However, Colleen was determined to regain as much of her life as possible. She never let the deficits from the stroke get in her way, and made a very remarkable recovery. She resumed driving, and was quite independent as she lived from day to day. Colleen showed an amazing resilience and determination as she recovered from the damage inflicted by the stroke. She worked intensely with the Speech Lab team  at Marquette University, and spent many years participating, as well as supporting other stroke victims.

In her later years, Colleen enjoyed annual vacations in Door County. In addition, she spent time in Panama City Beach, enjoying the warm weather. At the same time, her nieces’ children were growing and she provided loving attention to all of them.

Colleen was a very special person. She possessed an engaging personality, and was very outgoing, easily forming friendships with new people she met. In addition, she never complained about her stroke, and instead focused on her recovery. She demonstrated a remarkable resilience which allowed her to live her life the way she did. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
