Marie O. Wolf
May 3, 1917 - January 9, 2023

Marie “Ree” Wolf, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.  She passed away on Monday, January 9 at the age of 105. Beloved wife of the late Roy. Loving mother of Robert “Bob” (Connie) and Mark Wolf. Proud grandma of Stephanie Canfield, Tom (Amy Reeder) Wolf, Mike (Sara) Wolf, Andrew Wolf, Amber Wolf and Elysia ( Junior Densow) Wolf. Adored great grandmother of Sam, Maya and Chloe Canfield, Reed and Julia Wolf, George Wolf, Jack Devender, Nash Eberhardt and Hudson and Wolf Densow. Preceded in death by her siblings Cecelia, Sally, Monica and Dorothy. Further survived by nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.

Marie was born on May 3, 1917 to Andrew and Anna (Ritzke) Nickel.  She was born and raised on the Nickel farm in Stockbridge, WI, with her four sisters; Cecilia, Salena “ Sally”, Monica and Dorothy, all of whom lived from 90 to 103.

After graduating valedictorian of Stockbridge High School, Marie attended Kaukauna Normal School majoring in education. She taught at one-room schoolhouses in Stockbridge, Kloten and Forest Junction, Wisconsin for 15 years.

Marie met her husband, Roy Wolf, at the Stockbridge Harbor Dance Hall in 1938.  As Marie noted, he was “tall, blonde and very good looking”.  They dated for 4 ½ years before marrying on a cold, snowy day on November 26, 1942.  Together they had two sons, Bob and Mark.  The Wolfs moved around to a few locations to accommodate Roy’s job at Allis Chalmers.  They lived in West Allis, St. John, WI and Springfield, IL before finally settling in Menomonee Falls, WI in 1959.  Roy passed away unexpectedly in 1967.

In 1975, Marie moved into Bob and Connies duplex on Park Blvd in Menomonee Falls, WI.  She lived there, very independently, for the rest of her life.  Bob and his wife Connie’s children were over constantly as the duplex was only one block from their house.  Marie was always available for talks, sandwiches with home-made bread, chocolate chip cookies or an occasional sleepover if one of the grandkids wanted to just get away from the house.  Peanut M&Ms were always at the ready.  Her place was always kept spotless.

Marie was an avid reader her whole life, reading thousands of books, sometimes at a clip of one a day.  If you go to the romance or mystery sections at the Maude Shunk Library in Menomonee Falls, you’ll find many of the books marked with a dot on page 99, her way of keeping track of all the stories she’s already read.  Marie’s cognizance and memory were sharp up until the end.  She was big into crossword puzzles, her way of keeping her mind sharp.

Some of Marie’s favorite trips included travels to the Black Hills, Colorado, Germany and many jaunts down to Fort Myers Beach with family.  She finally took swimming lessons at age 67, so she could swim in the Gulf of Mexico.  She traveled often to see her Granddaughter Stephanie in Bend, Oregon, seeing much of the west coast in the process.

Marie was an accomplished cook and made many crowd-pleasing desserts.  Her poppy-seed cake with custard filling and butterscotch frosting was an especial birthday favorite.  Chocolate Chip Date Cake was another dessert that was commonly requested by her grandchildren.  She was in charge of Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners well into her 100s, taking care of the turkey, making the stuffing, and directing traffic for all other dishes.  The Turkey Dressing is irreplaceable in Wolf family holidays.

Marie was there for her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids her whole life.  Teaching Mark how to fish.  Keeping score for all of Bob and Mark’s high school basketball games.  Going to countless recitals and games for her grandchildren.  Marie lived a life full of love for her friends and family.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday January 21 at 11:00am at St Anthony’s the Hermit Catholic Church, N74 W13604 Appleton Ave. Menomonee Falls followed with burial at church cemetery. The family will greet friends 9:30am to 10:45am AT THE CHURCH.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Marie to your local public library or Horizon Home Care and Hospice (https://www.horizonhomecareandhospice.org) or Kathy Hospice appreciated.
