Orville E. Kolberg
November 2, 1922 - May 19, 2023

Orville E. Kolberg passed away peacefully on May 19, 2023. He was born in Gillett, Wis. on November 2, 1922, and was able to joyfully celebrate his 100th birthday with his family last fall.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary; his parents, Ernst and Augusta (Malessa) Kolberg; and six of his nine siblings: Bernice Schabo, Arlene Ciske, Merl Kolberg, Arbutus/Boots Cegla, Jeanne Kocherer, and Vilas/Butch Kolberg

He is survived by his four loving children: Dan (Sue) Kolberg, Cheryl (Jack) Gaulke, Bob (Laura) Kolberg, and Katie (Todd) Memmel; his grandchildren: Brad (Jenny) Kolberg, David (Holly) Kolberg, Tiffany (Rigdon) Simonis, Tara (Rigdon) (Jeff) Wood; John (Carol) Gaulke, Tom Gaulke; Ted (Rachel Yohay) Kolberg, Hanna Kolberg (Mike Jumes), Julia Kolberg (Greg Brey); Tony (Lesleigh) Memmel and Megan (Memmel) (Joe) Scheinkoenig; and many great grandchildren. He is also survived by his three brothers: Leland/Bud (Bea) Kolberg, Tom (Pat) Kolberg and Ted (Debra) Kolberg. Other surviving loved ones include sisters-in-law, Arlene Kolberg and Elsie Kolberg, dozens of nieces and nephews, caring friends and neighbors.

Orville fought in the U.S. Army during WWII (Europe), trained for and worked as a Journeyman Carpenter, and served as a Lieutenant on the Wauwatosa Fire Department. Orville was an avid golfer, and in 2009, achieved a “hole-in-one”. He faithfully attended church at “Apostles of Christ” Lutheran in Wauwatosa, and was more recently part of “Christ” Lutheran in Pewaukee. A special thank you to Rev. Lawrence Gates for his faithful at-home visits with our dad. Much appreciated.  

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2023, from 9:00-10:45 a.m. followed by an 11:00 a.m. service at Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home, 10121 W. North Avenue, Wauwatosa. Reception to follow in the Community Room. Burial and Military Honors at 2:15 p.m. at Highland Memorial Park, 14875 W. Greenfield Ave., New Berlin.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to: Christ Lutheran Church, Pewaukee; Time of Grace Ministries; CommonHeart Hospice, Watertown; Multiple Sclerosis Society-Wisconsin; The March of Dimes; or a charity of your choice.

Orville loved the Lord and we know that he is home.
