In Loving Memory of Cathy Paynter (nee Esch)

(October 14, 1942 - June 30, 2023)

Cathy Paynter passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 30, 2023. She was the devoted wife of Gordy Paynter, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and companionship. Cherished sister to Ellen Fisher and David Esch (Paula). Cathy was a loving mother to her children, Jill Heacock (Larry) and Jeff Paynter (Doris), and a cherished grandmother to Nicole Kowalchuk (Tyler), Holly Bird (Tony), Laryssa Edlund (Josh), Scott Heacock (Nicole), Tristan Paynter, and Ben Heacock (Gabby). Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren Nora, Charlie, and Willa Bird, Simon Heacock, Oliver and Cooper Kowalchuk.

Born on October 14, 1942, Cathy (nee Esch) was preceded in death by her parents, Clement and Dana (Evans) Esch, as well as her son, Steven Paynter and brother William Esch. Cathy attended Mineral Point High School and then pursued her passion for caregiving at St. Mary's School of Nursing, where she earned her degree as a registered nurse. On June 6, 1964, she united in marriage with Gordy, the love of her life, and they embarked on a journey filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures.

Throughout her career, Cathy dedicated many years of her life to nursing, extending compassion and support to those in need. She served in various hospitals, nursing homes, and finished her career as a visiting home care nurse. Cathy's genuine desire to help others touched the lives of countless individuals, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts she encountered.

Cathy Paynter's passing leaves a void in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be remembered for her unwavering love, her caring nature, and her ability to bring comfort to those in need. May her gentle soul find eternal peace, and may her cherished memories bring solace and strength to her family and friends during this difficult time.

Visitation will be held on Friday August 4, 2023 from 5-6:30 PM at the Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home, W250 N6505 Hwy 164, Sussex, WI. A Memorial Service will be held at 6:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Cathy's name to the charity of your choice as a testament to her lifelong commitment to caring for others.
