Born to eternal life on June 23, 2024, at the age of 87. Lovingly survived by his wife Jane (nee Fischer) of 57 years. Proud father of John (Stacie) Glaser, Ellen (Ken) Koelbl, Thomas (Kim) Glaser, Katharine Glaser, Christine (Paul) Jacquart, Peter (Scarlett) Glaser. Brother of Jim Glaser, Mary Zarse, Barbara (Richard) Finley. Further survived by 16 grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents Frank & Gertrude Glaser.
Participation in athletics was a big part of the first third of John's life. His primary sport was basketball when, as a senior at Marquette High School in 1954, he led his team to its first WISAA State Championship since 1929. He was named to the first All-State team, and was also named to the Catholic School All-American team. He went on to Marquette University, where in 1958 he was named team captain by his teammates and MVP by the media, and was a New York Times Honorable Mention All-American. Upon graduation, he was the #3 all-time scorer (points per game), and #2 rebounder in MU history. He still is only one of three players in school history to average 14 rebounds throughout one season. John was also the leading scorer on MU's track team in both his junior and senior years.
Upon graduation in 1959, John entered the coaching profession as head coach at Chicago's Mt. Carmel High School with his team winning the Fenwick Catholic League Holiday Tournament that year. In 1961 he became the head coach at Marquette High School where in the next six seasons his team won two WISAA championships (1965 & 1967) in addition to being runner up in 1963. John left coaching in 1967 and entered the investment world, retiring in 1994 as a Vice-President of Smith-Barney. In 1997 he re-entered the work force at St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care where he was named in 2009 as a Non-Profit CFO of the Year by the Milwaukee Business Journal. He was very instrumental in growing the organization into one of the larger non-profits in the area.
"Dad" loved and was especially proud of the six children he and Jane raised, who he considered all stellar citizens who have distinguished themselves by making significant, positive, and productive achievements in raising their families, as well as in their chosen professions.
