Catherine S. "Cathy" Sharkey
February 24, 1962 - July 8, 2024

(nee Sweet)

Found peace on July 8, 2024. Loving wife of Ross for 37 years. Loving mom of Sam Sharkey and Maddy (Dan) Margulis. Proud grandma of Mia and Carmen Margulis. Beloved sister of Sue (Dale) Gorecki, Michelle (Dale) Grandlic, and Candace (Gregory) Blommel. Dear sister-in-law of Jean (Roger) Schliewe, Suzanne (David) Sachse, and Laure Noe. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Daryl and Marlene Sweet, her in-laws, Robert and Delores Sharkey, and her sister, Ann Sweet.

Visitation for Cathy will be held on Thursday July 18 at the Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home in Menomonee Falls from 4-7 PM and again on Friday July 19 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, N88 W17658 Christman Rd., Menomonee Falls from 10 AM until 10:45 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM. Burial will follow Mass at Sunnyside Cemetery, Lannon, WI.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Optimist Club of Menomonee Falls Foundation, American Cancer Society, the Meta House of Milwaukee or the Guest House of Milwaukee are appreciated.

First and foremost, Cathy was a loving and caring mother to her two children and a doting grandmother to her beautiful granddaughters, being dubbed "Maki" by her granddaughter, Mia (which stuck and by which she will always be known to them). Her adoring husband regularly referred to Cathy as his "better seven-eighths" and together they built a life that she filled with love and laughter as they raised their children and later pursued crazy outdoor adventures together. Cathy was the oldest of five daughters and absolutely cherished her sisters and loved each of them dearly. To the outside world, Cathy was a whirlwind of positive energy. Whether in her role as the receptionist at the DeWitt Law Firm (a job she truly loved) or as a volunteer with (and past president of) The Optimist Club of Menomonee Falls people were naturally attracted to her and quickly transformed from co-workers and co-volunteers to dear friends. Her unending energy when it came to helping others was best illustrated in her role as the director of the Menomonee Falls chapter of the Distinguished Young Women scholarship program at which she worked tirelessly and touched the lives of countless young women. To help energize her vitality at work and as a volunteer, Cathy was a physical fitness fanatic and was a fixture at the local Wisconsin Athletic Club where, of course, she made countless friends.

At the end of the day, she lived a life that, although shorter than hoped, was full. "She will be remembered dearly, cherished, and missed every day by many."
