Gloria Gail Belling
August 24, 1934 - October 17, 2024

Gloria Gail Belling found peace on October 17th, 2024. She was born in Milwaukee, WI, to Ellen Weller (nee Krueger) and William C. Weller. Gloria dedicated her life to family, her nursing profession, and had a long life of enjoying many hobbies as well as exploring her heritage.

Gloria was preceded in death by Wayne F. Belling her husband of 60 years and her loyal companion Bonnie, a purebred West Highland Terrier. She was a devoted mother to Linda Belling and Susan Dillon (nee: Belling). An adored grandmother of Mich and Lauren Dillon. A loving and caring sister to Dale (Barb) Weller, and Bill (Jan) Weller. She was a beloved aunt to Sandy Weller Marincic, Jenny (Randy) Kasta (nee: Weller), Shannon (Matt) Baumeister (nee: Weller), and Brody (Heidi) Weller. Gloria was survived by many other relatives, friends, and loved ones who she cherished deeply.

Gloria lived all over the state of Wisconsin, but her life began when she was born atop a kitchen table on the North side of Milwaukee. She began her education journey in Milwaukee and from there she went on to a two-room schoolhouse in Patrick’s Lake, Wisconsin. She would then move up to Rhinelander, where she frequently needed snowplow rides to get to school during the harsh winters. She eventually graduated from Waukesha High School in 1952.

Gloria was giving, kind, and her drive to help people led her into the medical field at the Milwaukee County Hospital School of Nursing and the School of Anesthesia. Upon finishing her education at Milwaukee County Hospital, she met Wayne Belling at her cousin Pauleen’s wedding; they later married on Nov 30th, 1957. Wayne and Gloria Belling initially settled in Neenah, WI where they had their first daughter Linda. Following the birth of their first child, they moved to Milwaukee. Gloria worked at St Joseph’s Hospital where their second daughter Susan was born. She continued to work at multiple hospitals throughout the greater Milwaukee area, while also continuing her education at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. There she received her baccalaureate in nursing in 1972. With her new degree, she became a dedicated nursing instructor at MATC with a specific emphasis in the prenatal unit. Gloria finally established a home with her family on Wells Street in Wauwatosa, WI.

During her pursuit of education, she learned the delicate balance of family life, work, and school. Gloria and her family enjoyed various activities like bowling, going to the theater, frequenting sporting events, traveling throughout the U.S. as well as multiple trips to Europe. While in Europe they explored their German, Scandinavian, and Swiss heritage. They also enjoyed buying, selling, and collecting antiques. Some of her personal hobbies included going to German fest, playing sheepshead, bird watching and tuning into PBS mysteries like Agatha Christie.

Throughout her entire life, she enjoyed many cherished moments with her mother Ellen, father William, and younger brothers Dale and Bill. Gloria and her brothers would go fishing, explore surrounding forests and took many trips back to Rhinelander to visit family during the summer. Due to the untimely death of her father in the early 1960s, her mother and younger brothers Dale and Bill moved to Wauwatosa to be closer to Gloria. In addition, she treasured her time with the Kruegers, Wellers, and her late husband's side of the family (the Belling’s). She also became a huge part of her grandchildren’s lives, Mich, and Lauren. Gloria spent countless days with them creating timeless memories like cooking and baking, picking them up from school, taking them to sporting events, going to church, and going on walks with Bonnie.

After retiring due to breast cancer, she faithfully spent her time with close family. They often went to their cottage in Blanchardville and spent time with her best friend Bonnie Bewell, the Westie. In every part of her life, she devoted her mind and spirit to God, using the Lord's good will to guide her in every way. Gloria had a work ethic that was unmatched. She was the Matriarch of the family and she led with a caring and driven intention. Her knowledge and experience made her a well-rounded and wise figure always providing support to family and other people's needs. For those that were lucky enough to know her she impacted them greatly. Sadly, due to various health conditions over the years she spent the last 4 months at assisted living facilities and in hospice. Thank you to all the staff at each facility and family who cared for her at that time.
