John W. Kuge, age 86, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025, at The Lawlis Family Hospice, with his beloved wife of 67 years, Patricia, by his side. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, John’s steady love and quiet strength were a constant blessing to his family.
He will be deeply missed by his cherished wife, Patricia (nee Zepf); daughters, Kari Gilhams and Lori (Richard) Duffey; and his grandchildren, Valerie Gilhams, Patrick Duffey, and Sara (Theodor) Bjorklund, who knew and loved him as “Papa.” He was also a proud great-grandfather to Elise and Eddie Bjorklund. John will also be missed by his many friends.
John was an avid sports fan who rarely missed a Bucks, Brewers, or Packers game. He enjoyed reading and word puzzles - especially word scrambles - and collected stamps in his younger years. Known for his dry wit and gentle humor, John had a gift for making those around him smile. His calm demeanor and peaceful presence brought comfort to everyone who knew him.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Ozaukee Hospital and The Lawlis Family Hospice.
Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Schmidt and Bartelt Funeral Home, 10280 N. Port Washington Road, Mequon. John will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery following the service.
