Alan Donald Amundson, 41, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passed away on December 20, 2025, at Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital in Mequon, following a long and courageous journey with glioblastoma. He was surrounded by love, held by God’s grace, and stepped peacefully into complete wholeness.
Born on November 15, 1984, in Burnsville, Minnesota, to Donald and Helen Amundson, Alan grew up in Prior Lake, where he attended Prior Lake Schools and graduated in 2003. He carried a rare blend of intelligence, humor, warmth, and depth—qualities that reflected the family who raised him and the deep love he held for them—and these traits would define every part of his life.
On August 28, 2010, Alan married the love of his life, Ann Sherren. Their story began at UW–La Crosse, where they met, grew together, and found their bonus family in the lifelong friends Alan cherished so deeply. Alan was a devoted husband and an extraordinary father to their three children: Kathryn Averie, Ellody James, and Max Theodore. His family was his greatest pride, his safest place, and, as he always said, Ann was his 'home'. His amazing children will carry on his bright reflection, as they each have just the very best pieces of him.
Alan spent ten years at Milwaukee Tool, where he served as an engineering manager and worked in product development. He was a respected leader who took great pride in his work and had a love for creativity and problem-solving. This passion led him to hold multiple patents throughout his career and earned him the trust and admiration of colleagues who knew him not only for his work, but for his character. His Milwaukee Tool family was integral to his life and played a significant role in his choice to continue working, even during his battle.
Alan lived fully and enthusiastically. He loved working on cars—especially the 1976 Ford F-250 he learned to drive in—snowboarding, camping, and being with his kids, anywhere adventure, laughter, and togetherness could be found. He had a quick wit, a playful spirit, and a way of making people feel instantly at ease. Alan’s presence was a gift, and his love was uniquely his.
His fight over the past two years was marked by courage, humility, and a quiet strength rooted in God that carried him through even the hardest days.
Alan is survived by his devoted wife, Ann; his beloved children, Kathryn, Ellody, and Max; his parents, Don and Helen Amundson; his sister, Lisa (Brian) Colin, and their children Milena, Alex, and Aiden; his parents-in-law, Brian and Margo Sherren; his brother-in-law, Ian (Cristin) Sherren, and their children Mae, Tess, Bea, and Hank; along with aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends whose lives are forever changed by knowing him.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Newell and Ardis Amundson, and Harold and Eunice Rockwell; uncles Cliff Hill and Warren Rockwell; and cousin Mark Rockwell.
Funeral and memorial arrangements will be held after the holidays in 2026. Details are forthcoming and will be shared with family and friends when finalized.
Alan was deeply loved, is endlessly missed, and will forever remain woven into the hearts of those who were blessed to walk this life with him.
