Constance "Connie" E. Mitchell
February 20, 1925 - March 15, 2026

Connie Mitchell, age 101, passed away on March 15, 2026, at Dixon Hollow Senior Living Community in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. She was born February 20, 1925, at the Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Henning and Ruth Sandsteel.

While Connie spent her early years in Chicago, she also spent many winters in Ft. Pierce, Florida, and most summers at Beulah Vista, a family-owned resort located on Lake Beulah between Mukwonago and East Troy. Connie attended Mukwonago High School and graduated in 1942. Following high school, Connie attended the University of Wisconsin where she studied accounting.

On June 2, 1945, Connie married high school sweetheart Wayne Mitchell, son of Charlie and Dorothy Mitchell, long-time residents of Mukwonago. Connie was best known for working at the Citizens Bank of Mukwonago, where she worked from 1957 to 1990 and was named a vice president in 1988. She seemed to know everyone in Mukwonago and Big Bend because of her work at the bank.

Connie and Wayne lived in Mukwonago until 1976 at which time they built a home on Lake Beulah. They lived at the lake until 1998, when they built a new home in Sun City Grand, Surprise, Arizona. They returned to Wisconsin in 2013 to be closer to family. Husband Wayne died in 2015 after 70 years of marriage. Both were members of the First Congregational Church of Mukwonago.

Connie was known for her charm, kindness, good nature, and desire to be independent. She was always engaged in the lives of her family members and friends and took the time to listen and show people that she cared about them, becoming a confidant and substitute mother to many. She taught her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren how to love with depth and sincerity. Our grief is combined with our gratitude. She will be missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Connie is survived by one daughter, Pam (Bob) Grady and one son, Phillip (Patti) Mitchell; six grandchildren, Erin (Matt) Goebel, Patrick (Rupali) Grady, Ryan (Kathryn) Grady, Jennifer (Erik) Masem, Sarah (Daniel) Paulson, Phillip B. (Ariel) Mitchell and step-grandson Brian (Tyme) Broomell; 15 great grandchildren, Lauren Goebel, Will Goebel, Matthew Goebel, Anjali Grady, Arjuna Grady, Caroline Grady, Suzanna Grady, June Grady, CeCe Masem, Hatweya Masem, Aziiza Masem, Sullivan Masem, Rose Masem, Jasper Paulson and Maelle Paulson; nieces Rhonda (Steve) Whitman and Shaun (the late Frank) Kotlewsky.

In addition to her parents Henning and Ruth, Connie was preceded in death by brother Dwight Sandsteel.

We would like to thank staff, nurses and physicians at Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin, Blue Stone Medical Services, Dixon Hollow Senior Living Community, Preceptor Hospice, Seniors Helping Seniors (Sussex), and her personal loving caregivers for their wonderful care.

A visitation will take place on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 10AM followed by a service at 11AM at First Congregational Church in Mukwonago (231 Roberts Dr).
