Terry Largent
April 5, 1941 - April 9, 2026

Terry Largent, born in Mason City, Iowa to Clyde and Laura Largent, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026, at the age of 85 in Oconomowoc.

Terry met Marilyn (Huling) in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and they were married on August 15, 1964. The couple moved to Streator, Illinois, where their sons, Mark and Scott, were born. During their years in Streator, Terry and Marilyn became part of a close‑knit community of teachers who formed lasting friendships. For years, this group gathered every Labor Day to reconnect and catch up.

In 1969, Terry and Marilyn relocated to Oconomowoc, beginning the next chapter of their life together.

A life-long educator, Terry graduated from the University of Northern Iowa. Terry worked for the Oconomowoc Area School District in many roles as an administrator, DECA advisor, distributive education teacher, vocational education coordinator, and led the school- to-work program. Terry continued to work for the district long after he retired. His unwavering commitment to student impact and to representing both the teaching profession and the district was evident in the countless extra hours he devoted and his tireless efforts.

Civic duties included service on the Town of Oconomowoc Board, work as the Weed Commissioner, and active involvement in the Oconomowoc Chamber of Commerce and Lions Club. Community involvement was deeply important to Terry, a value he consistently demonstrated and instilled in his sons and later passed on to his grandchildren.

For more than 30 years, Terry could be found mowing the 25 acres of Misty Meadows Park. He even had large headlights added to the mower and was often seen cutting grass late into the night. When he wasn’t mowing, he worked as a pyrotechnician for Bartolotta Fireworks—luckily retiring with all limbs still attached.

For many years, Terry and Marilyn started their morning at "Bagel Group", along with other retired educators and friends.

Terry was known for photography, watching movies, cooking gourmet meals, yellow Abercrombie caps, never passing up dessert, the family laminated phone list, driving around town delivering articles or magazines, usually with yellow highlights or sticky notes attached, and sending those articles in the mail. Not a week passed without Mark, Scott, Tristan, or Emerson receiving an envelope in the mail.

Memorable vacations included a 1975 Europe trip with a group of Oconomowoc High School students; a military jet refueling experience; Colorado and Salmon River rafting; Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta; annual fishing trips to Canada with friends; snow skiing in the UP, Colorado, Utah, Oregon, and Canada; heli-hiking in the Bugaboos; and trips to the Bahamas, St. Maarten, a Caribbean cruise, and the Florida Keys.

Terry and Marilyn created many special memories with Tristan and Emerson on educational trips they fondly called “expeditions.” They could also be found at countless school and sporting events for their grandchildren, each one bringing them great pride and joy.

Terry is survived by his children Mark (Lisa) Largent, Scott (Lani) Largent and their children Tristan (fiancée Kallie Knueppel) and Emerson Largent. He is further survived by brother-in-law Don (Carmen) Huling and sister-in-law Cheryl Klose. Terry was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marilyn, sister Bonnie Barnett, and brother-in-law Jim Klose.

A visitation will be held Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 10am until time of service at 12pm at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church 800 Lake Drive, Oconomowoc. Interment will follow at LaBelle Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family (Scott Largent, 350 Glacier Ridge Trail, Verona WI 53593) for a scholarship fund to be established at the Oconomowoc High School.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Towner Crest and Brighton Hospice for their compassionate care. They are also deeply thankful to neighbors and friends who supported Terry following Marilyn’s passing and when he could no longer drive, especially Richard and Melody Baccus and Laura Molenda.

Terry’s legacy lives on in the family he and Marilyn built, the community he served with dedication, and the countless students he inspired throughout his career in education.
