Paul David Burkholz, passed away on May 14, 2026, in Oconomowoc at the age of 62 surrounded by family.
Born in Waukesha on October 6, 1963, Paul was a 1981 graduate of the Oconomowoc High School.
Following graduation, his sense of adventure took him to the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Though he spent a brief time navigating the Texas highways as an airport shuttle driver, his professional path truly began when he joined the telecommunications industry. Paul eventually felt the pull of home and returned to Oconomowoc. He excelled in the communications industry until his retirement from AT&T in 2018. Paul’s zest for life was best seen through his diverse passions. A true Wisconsin sports fan, he lived and breathed the green and gold of the Packers, the spirit of the Badgers, and the excitement of the Bucks and Brewers. He wasn’t just a spectator; he was a formidable presence on the golf course, the bowling alley, and the softball diamond. When winter arrived, Paul headed for the slopes. Whether "shooshing" through local Wisconsin hills or traveling west to carve through deep mountain powder, he was at home in the snow.
Music was the heartbeat of Paul’s life. He was an accomplished keyboardist and guitarist. Starting in high school he spent decades performing with his lifelong friends. Together with bands Slippery Jack, Redline and Innuendo they became part of the local music scene, bringing energy and melody to area events and favorite local pubs.
In 1998, Paul married the love of his life, Kristal. Together, they built a life and home in Oconomowoc, where Paul embraced the role of a devoted husband and stepfather.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife, Kristal (Lucht) Burkholz; his three stepchildren, Bobby (Whitney) Swan, Tiffany DeBord, and Christopher Swan; his mother, Darlene Burkholz; his brother, Chuck Burkholz; and his sisters, Sandi (Dale) Shannon and Helen (Mike) Hall. He also leaves behind a legacy of love within his numerous step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Paul was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Burkholz.
