Karen Elizabeth Kruger
August 27, 1962 - May 18, 2026

Karen Elizabeth Kruger, age 63, of Wauwatosa, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 18, 2026.

Born on August 27, 1962, Karen and her sister, Nancy, shared a unique and beautiful bond as both sisters and fellow adoptees into the Kruger Family. Karen was the dearly loved and chosen daughter of James Thornberg Kruger and Carol Mae (Keller) Kruger, who blessed their family through adoption.

Karen dedicated her life to educating others, spending 26 years as a passionate elementary teacher at Townsend Street Elementary. She had a rare gift for inspiring students and shaping young minds. Her Townsend family will deeply miss her.

Outside the classroom, Karen lived life like a grand stage production. Her deep love for the theater shone through in her acting and directing numerous plays. She brought that same creative energy into her kitchen, where she loved cooking masterful meals and hosting unforgettable gatherings for friends and family. To her, a good recipe and a good script were both meant to be shared with love.

She is survived by her sister Nancy, her dear aunt Carla, her cousin Lynette, and her treasured friend Cheryl. She is further survived by her loving nephews, Christoper (Sarah), Michael (Celia), Daniel, and grand nephew Leo. She is survived by the Kruger clan and the Keller family, as well as many lifelong friends from Wauwatosa schools. Karen will be deeply missed by an amazing community of students and colleagues at Townsend Street Elementary, whom she loved like family. Karen had many friends and a large extended family who will miss her warmth and creativity.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Family in order to  fund a Memorial ‘Buddy Bench’ at her school—a dedicated place for anyone who needs a friend.”
