Harriet Ann Jones
May 16, 1939 - February 22, 2018

Ann Jones was the beloved wife of 56 years of Reverend Dr. Richard Jones, loving mother of Atty. Julie Whitney (Dr. Robert Whitney) and Rev. Lori Lossie, and proud grandmother of Sarah and Bethany Lossie and Laura, Daniel and Eva Whitney. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Kenneth and Bernita Whitney.

Born in Mitchell, SD, she moved with her family to Wisconsin in 1953. She graduated with honors in 1957 from Madison East High School where she was first chair clarinet and a member of the National Honor Society. She attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she received a Bachelor's in Music in 1961 and Masters in Music in 1973. She was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi education honor society, as well as Sigma Delta Pi for Spanish and Sigma Alpha Iota for music. She played the clarinet and piano.

In 1961 Ann married Richard Jones, whom she met in eighth grade, and moved with him as he attended seminary and as his appointments as a United Methodist pastor changed over the years.

She taught elementary school music in Skokie, Illinois and in Wisconsin at St. Anne's School, West Allis, Edgerton, Cuba City and Milwaukee. She also taught Voice at Milton College for several years. She knew how to run a well-disciplined music class and bring the best out of her students in their choir performances and Christmas programs.

Ann's commitment to children and music led to her starting children's choirs at United Methodist churches in West Allis, Milton, Platteville and Whitefish Bay and directing those choirs for a total 46 years. In addition, she sang solos and sang in church choirs. She started hand bell Choirs in several churches and played in them for many years.  She enjoyed acting in musical productions and over the years had many roles where she put her vocal talents to use.

In retirement, she tutored in Milwaukee Public Schools and continued her music ministry at the church. She volunteered in the church office and looked forward to January and February in Florida, which was her favorite of the many places to which she and her husband Richard traveled in their motorhome.

Of all her accomplishments and the many facets of her life, Ann was most proud of her daughters Julie and Lori and especially her five grandchildren.
