Mildred J. Buckley

(nee Brousek). Mildred was born on March 13, 1923 in her parent's home in Chicago, IL. She had one sister, Mae (Mary) and two brothers, Ed and Jim. She was born to Eternal Life on Friday, January 17, 2020.  

At six years old, she was infected with tuberculosis and had to stay home for a full year of second grade. When she recuperated, the school said that she was very intelligent and they advanced her up two grades! As a child, Mil always enjoyed playing the piano, clarinet, horseback riding and hanging out with her favorite cousin, Rose Jamrock.  As a high schooler, she got a job at a chocolate factory and ever since she has disliked chocolate.    She graduated high school at the age of 16  and was accepted to the U of I where she met her best friend and life long companion, Norman A. Buckley (while playing volleyball). She graduated with a BS in Physics as the only woman.   They were officially married on July 1, 1944. 

She taught math until moving to Michigan in 1950. While raising eleven children, Mil worked for various companies in the specialized area of Production and Inventory Control. She had earned a CDP (Certificate in Data Processing) and is a certified fellow (CFPIM). At age 65, she obtained an MS in International Trade from the University of Buffalo, NY.  In the 1990's, she and Norman were sent by the State Department to be consultants in Romania and Bosnia.  Mildred and Norman traveled extensively, visiting six continents including Antarctica.  She was a faithful lifetime member of the Roman Catholic Church. 

Dear mother of 11 children: Mick (Marian), Patrick (Setsuko), Paul (Peggy), Teresa (Ridley), Lea (Rick) Davis, Bruce, Kitty Linch, Rita, John (Naseem), Loretta (Michael) Kryshak and Phil (Michelle).  Loving grandmother of 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Further survived by her brother-in-law, Thomas A. Buckley, II, nieces nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Norman Buckley; and her grandson, Matthew Linch. 

Visitation will be on Friday, January 24, 2020 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm. Time of Mass of Christian Burial will be at 3:00pm  at Lumen Christi Catholic Church, 2750 W. Mequon Road, Mequon.
