Thomas M. Dircks was welcomed into Heaven on Sunday April 12th, 2020 at the age of 78 years. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Elsie, his wife of 58 years and a cherished father of Andrea (John) Dircks-Larsen, Tom (Dawn) Dircks, Peter (Susan) Dircks and Joshua Dircks. Tom was also a dear grandfather to Tom, Natalie, Christian, Ryan and Morgan. He is survived by his brother Jerry (Karen), sister Karlene (Ron) Krueger and was preceded in death by his parents Lewis and Phyllis (nee Campbell) as well as his siblings Mary, Herb, and Greg.
True to his strong and resilient nature, Tom chose to receive an LVAD heart pump in 2016 and never allowed that to slow down his charm, wit and sense of humor. As he often said to his family afterward, “I was just not ready to die” as he truly enjoyed life and all those around him. Certainly, Elsie, his children, his grandchildren and his many friends enjoyed that decision as they all appreciated the additional friendship and love Tom brought to everyone these last 3 ½ years.
Tom was born December 1st, 1941 in Cedar Rapids, IA where he met and married the love of his life, and wife, Elsie (nee Ehrenberger). He attended George Washington High School in Cedar Rapids and then served in the US Navy from 1961 to 1965 where he learned his trade and vocation as a dental technician. This combination of artistic skill and the use of technology and innovation became Tom’s lifelong career. In 1968, Tom and Elsie started Paramount Crown and Bridge Laboratory, which was in business through 2013, a 45 year-long success and passion. His dedication and loyalty to his employees, his strong business principles and providing the highest quality products to his clients, were of most importance to him, while never seeking accolades.
Tom exuded warmth and kindness to everyone, everywhere. He was also a loyal friend and a respected and modest person, loving to help others and expecting nothing in return. He was kind, compassionate, funny and had an infectious smile for all those around him. Tom loved music of all genres, dancing with Elsie, golfing with friends (Tom was a member of North Hills Country Club for over 40 years), playing cards, reading and also gardening and landscaping. His family was truly at the center of his life and his children and grandchildren always brought a smile to his face. But most of all, Tom adored his loving wife Elsie, not only was she his best friend, but as long as Elsie was there, life was the best it could be. Their close marriage and friendship were noticed by many, and these last few years meant the world to both of them.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude, special thanks and appreciation to the dedicated physicians, nurses, staff and the LVAD Group department and the In-Patient Rehab Unit at Aurora St Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee, as well as the staff at Aurora Advanced Health Care in Menomonee Falls.
Due to the recent pandemic and safety concerns, a celebration and time of remembrance of Tom’s life will be held at a future date. If desired, memorials to Aurora St. Luke's Cardiac Care Center appreciated.
Tom can now tee it up with Chip and Wally
