Herbert D. Hentzen Jr.
September 16, 1927 - July 11, 2021
        

Of Mequon – Entered into Eternal Life on July 11, 2021 at the age of 93. Born Sept. 16, 1927 to Herbert D., Sr. and Marie (nee Barry) Hentzen. Beloved husband of Mary Fran Cahill and the late Margaret “Mickey” (nee Ziemann). Dear father of Deborah (Robert) Lentz, Kim Hentzen, Wendy (John) Mikkelson and Herbert D. (Dianne) Hentzen, III. Special grandfather of Anne (Matthew) Gonzales, Sarah (Travis) Buettner, Jim Lentz, Kristin (Frank Dworak) Mikkelson, Brian (Sara) Mikkelson, Cameron Mikkelson, Lauren (J.T) Fry, Jennifer Hentzen, and Caroline (Michael) , Marsella. Adored great-grandfather of Garrett, Caroline, Harrison, Ella, Amelia, Roman, Wyatt, Corra, Myla and Liliana. Further survived by his brother, Al (Kathy), many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bill.

Herb was a graduate of Whitefish Bay High School and the University of Wisconsin, where he exceled both academically and on the varsity tennis team.

After graduating from UW with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Herb went to work for his family’s industrial paint company, Hentzen Coatings. For many years, Herb served as the firm’s president.

Throughout his life, Herb gave generously of his time and often his treasure to many organizations, serving at various times as a board member and/or officer of First Wisconsin Bank-Northwest, St. James (now Lumen Christi) Catholic Church parish council, Arthritis Foundation-Wisconsin Chapter, St. Rose Youth & Family Center (now part of Lad Lake), Society for Advancement of Management, the Town Club, the Milwaukee Tennis & Education Foundation, Milwaukee Tennis Classic, Inc. and YPO.

Always ready with a big smile and prepared to share a good story or joke, Herb will be sorely missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Visitation Wednesday August 11 from 4:00 pm until 7:00pm at the Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home in Mequon

Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, August 12 at 10:00 am at Lumen Christi Catholic Church, 2750 W. Mequon Rd., Mequon. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Private interment to follow.
