Terri Culp passed away August 15th, 2021 at Angel’s Grace Hospice in Oconomowoc. She was born on February 3rd, 1963, the daughter of the late Jim and Jean (Nield) Stummer in Kenosha, WI. She attended St. Joseph High School, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Madison Area Technical College for her Associate’s degree in dental hygiene. On July 11th, 1987, she married her loving husband, David Culp, at St. Mary Catholic Church. Together they raised three children: Max, Jack, and Madeline.
Terri was young, but she filled her years finding ways to interact with and serve others. Throughout college, Terri worked as a waitress where she enjoyed conversing with all of her customers. After college, Terri worked as a dental hygienist where she made lifelong connections with many of her patients and coworkers. Following her work in dental hygiene, Terri worked doing arguably her favorite job - being a mom, and a phenomenal one at that. She gave her kids a happy and memorable childhood. They will be able to carry those memories with them forever.
Terri even went on to start her own painting business, mostly painting for friends of friends. She loved meeting new people through her business and also making new friends. Finally, Terri worked as a teacher’s aide at Meadowbrook Elementary School. She had a special love for her teachers, and especially her students. She often stayed for hours after her scheduled shift to help out with extra tasks around the classroom. She made special bonds with the students. Everyone loved Mrs. Culp!
A people person at heart, even her hobbies revolved around warming the hearts of others. Terri loved taking photos of others doing what they love, whether it be hockey, dance, or vacation. She also loved baking, but only for others of course. She is known for making countless cookies and breads for care packages, birthdays, and various events. She even spent hours cooking dishes for her family that she had no interest in eating herself! She was happiest doing kind acts for others, not for recognition, but because it was the right thing to do.
In her free time, Terri loved spending time with her family, especially in some of their favorite places. Her parents’ cabin on the Willow Flowage holds many memories, including fishing and swimming in the summer, and skating and sledding in the winter. Another place that Terri held close to her heart was Colorado. She loved nature and wildlife, often pointing out scenery that was “way cool!” She hiked alongside her family, even years into chemotherapy and radiation treatment. No matter what Terri was doing, she was always living her life to the fullest.
Loving wife of Dave. Terri is further survived by her mother-in-law: Shirley Culp of Madison, WI; siblings: Timothy (Kathy) Stummer of Menominee Falls, WI, Dr. Keith (Laura) Stummer of Pleasant Prairie, WI, Mary Schabel of Kenosha, WI and Betsy (Keith Alexander) Stummer of Kenosha, WI; children: Max (Caitlyn Schroeder) Culp, Jack Culp, and Madeline (Josh Goetsch) Culp.
Terri is preceded in death by her parents: Jim and Jean (Nield) Stummer and her father-in-law: Phil Culp.
