Kathy Groeger, a longtime resident of the Village of Summit, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of July 2nd. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bob, her parents, sister and brothers, and many family and friends. She is survived by her daughters Barb (Todd) Gartzke, Theresa Forney (Chris Kallie), and many friends and family.
Kathy was a woman of many interests and passions. A creative soul, she loved nature, animals, the outdoors, music, and was an incredibly talented artist and framer. She breathed life into everything she touched with her own signature style. Kathy was known for her generosity and many of her friends reaped the benefits of her homemade goodies, fresh fruits and vegetables from her garden, and even her famous crock pickles. Her friends and family who are lucky enough to own a piece of her beautiful artwork will all see something in common, her iconic signature with a ladybug on the “K” to signify her love of ladybugs.
Ladybugs are thought to symbolize protection, resilience, and lastly … good luck. Kathy was a true protector and matriarch of her family and friends, often dropping everything to help her friends and family. She was one of the strongest and most resilient people, overcoming several bouts with cancer and other health aversions, as well as the loss of her beloved husband; yet she handled it all with grace and dignity, never complaining or feeling sorry for herself. She was always more concerned with making sure everyone around her was taken care of, including taking many goodies to her team of doctors and nurses during her appointments.
Kathy will always be remembered as a kind, generous and selfless woman who always put others first. She was truly an inspiration to all who were lucky enough to know her. Her art and soul lives on forever, and for that, we are all truly grateful. Kathy will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
The family asks that you think of Kathy every time you see, or are lucky enough, to hold a ladybug in your hand. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either the Waukesha County Humane Society or ProHealth Angels Grace Hospice.
Treasured friends and family escorting Kathy to her final resting place include Todd Gartzke, Chris Kallie, Ken Ruder, Marty McNamee, Mike Steger and Mitch McNamee.
Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 12 PM on Friday, July 8, 2022 at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, W856 US 18, Sullivan, WI. Burial to follow.
