James J. “Jim” Basak

Passed away peacefully with his family by his side on August 1, 2022 at the age of 77.  He is the loving dad of Kelly (Rusty) Konitzer; proud “Papa” of Bryce, Brianna, and Jenna Konitzer; caring brother of Joe (Susie) Basak and Mike Basak.  Jim is further survived by other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents Thaddeus and Dorothy Basak.

Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam.  He was recognized for his honorable service with a Purple Heart and achieved the rank of E5 Sergeant.  Jim’s experience in the Marines played an important role in his life.  He believed the Marines taught him the value of discipline, teamwork, and investing in a cause larger than oneself. This is how he lived his life.

Jim was an active member of his church in Largo, FL where he did a lot of volunteer work, including playing Santa Claus for 20 years.  Jim loved baseball, especially the Cubs.  Most of all, his grandchildren were his pride and joy.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 18 at St. James Catholic Church (830 E. Veteran’s Way, Mukwonago, WI.) from 3:00 PM until the time of the Funeral Mass at 4:00 PM.  Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 23, at 3:00 PM at Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery (21731 Spring St, Union Grove) with full Military Honors.
