Herbie was a proud Marine all of his life. He was blinded in WWII and when discharged immediately married his high school sweetheart. He and Vi were married 50 years and lovingly raising their children and grandson. Herbie adapted very well to being blind and had a popular jazz band that was together for over 35 years. His father built a cottage on Shawano Lake 70 years ago where he enjoyed swimming, fishing and sharing lake life with his extended family and friends. At home he was very active, you would see him on ladders cleaning out rain gutters, edging his sidewalk, shoveling snow, washing and waxing cars, and saying hello by name to all his neighbors. Later in life he met his beloved Ellen and they had an amazing 20 year marriage. He now had a very large family which he always enjoyed spending time with. Herbie was the absolute kindest, sweetest, amazing man who was known for being positive and always smiling. A special thank you to Paula Harris who was his roommate for the last 5 years which enabled him to live in his home for over 65 years.
