Allan Louis Schumacher, a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, and adored great-grandfather, passed away on July 2, 2023. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and cherished memories.
Al was born in Milwaukee, WI on January 1, 1939, the son of Charles and Alice Schumacher. He had the distinction of being the first baby born in Milwaukee that year. As a boy, Al delivered the Milwaukee Journal, continued with a truck route for the Journal, and later worked for Jon Lamb’s landscaping business. He attended three years of college at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, before starting his career at Allis Chalmers. He later worked at Centralab and Monopanel as a design engineer for over 50 years.
He married Pam Pierce in 1961 and they remained close companions throughout their almost 62 years of marriage. Together, they raised two children, took many family vacations, and continued to travel through their golden years. Special trips included Alaska, Hawaii, the Cotswolds of England, and a helicopter-hiking trip to Canada.
Al enjoyed cars – whether making model cars and attending car shows with his son, reminiscing about his 1953 Studebaker coupe and 1955 Austin Healy, or meticulously maintaining his Subarus. He was also an avid reader and was known for his wealth of interesting facts, particularly about presidents and American history, which he enjoyed sharing with others.
Music also held a special place in Al’s heart. He lent his beautiful bass to various church choirs as well as “The Ambassadors of Harmony,” a men’s a cappella choral group. He knew all the American standards and would often sing bits of relevant lyrics to add a bit of music and fun to any moment. His annual birthday melodies will be sorely missed.
Al was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. His commitment to his beliefs brought him strength and a sense of community. Through thoughtful, quiet devotion, he exemplified compassion and care for others.
His kindness, quiet strength, and selflessness will not be soon forgotten.
Al is survived by his wife, Pam; children, Kevin (Patty) Schumacher and Sherrill (Jeff) Smith; grandchildren, Samantha (Samuel) Tideman, Joshua (Amanda) Smith, Colin, Brent, and Natalie Schumacher; and great-grandchildren, Lena, Ella, and Hannah Tideman; as well as sister, Dale (David) Sciammas; brother, Ralph (Nancy) Schumacher, sister-in-law, Joyce Schumacher; and other friends and family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Schumacher; mother, Alice Schumacher; and brother, Charles Schumacher.
A memorial service for Al will be held at: Immanuel Lutheran Church, 13445 Hampton Road, Brookfield, WI on Wednesday, July 12. Visitation will begin at 10:30am, the service will begin at 12:30pm, and a luncheon will follow.
