Of Glendale, WI died on October 30, 2023 at the age of 93.
Mary Ellen was born on June 13, 1930, the daughter of Arthur and Grace Gallagher. Mary Ellen was born in Green Bay, WI, but spent the majority of her childhood in Manitowoc, WI. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Manitowoc and received a degree as a Registered Nurse from St. Mary’s Hospital in Green Bay.
Mary Ellen enjoyed helping others, and worked as a nurse until she left the profession to raise her family.
Mary Ellen was united in marriage to Robert Peterman on February 14, 1953; they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year. Together they lived in Celina, OH, Green Bay, Manitowoc, Cedarburg, Hartland, Three Lakes, and Glendale, especially enjoying their retirement years in Three Lakes. Mary Ellen made many wonderful friends in Three Lakes, and fondly remembered her time with the Three Lakes Crafty Ladies group. She loved all aspects of nature in the north woods, kept her hummingbird feeders full, and considered the deer her pets. She was an adept gardener, and an avid bridge player, achieving the rank of silver life master. She especially loved being with her grandchildren, taking them on “bug walks” and preparing wonderful picnics. She was always happy to go out for a latte.
Mary Ellen is survived by her beloved husband, Robert Peterman and their four children and families. Their children are Jeff Peterman (Beth), Kathy Peterman (Gary Nadolsky), Mary Fendry (Doug) and Sue Blankenheim (Steve). She is also survived by grandchildren Kate Peterman; Mike Peterman (Bethany) and their daughter Magnolia; Sam Nadolsky (Erin Bach) and their daughters Hazel and Hattie; Erin Fendry (Collin Williams); Mark Fendry; Emily Blankenheim (Max Johnson); Courtney Clingan (Sam) and their sons Walter and Arlo; Joe Blankenheim; and Paul Blankenheim. She is further survived by her brother-in-law George Pfeffer. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Jacqueline.
A private memorial service will be held in December. Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral & Cremation Services, Mequon, WI is assisting the family.
