Linda Sue Howland, beloved aunt, sister, and friend, died on April 12th, 2024 at age 64. She is survived by her sister Deb Howland, brother in law Tom Jacobson, and nephews Peter and John; brother-in-law Wendell Myers and nieces Andrea and Julia; and many friends. She was predeceased by her sister Pam Howland and their parents.
Linda was born to Doris (née Drewitz) and Ralph “Bud” Howland in Oconomowoc. At two years old, she began to experience seizures; doctors discovered a brain tumor. Bud and Doris were told she would likely not live into adulthood. Linda survived two brain surgeries and managed chronic illness and disability, but grew up to be a smart, supportive, wickedly funny presence in the community and the lives of her family, friends, and students for many years.
Linda was a trooper and a fighter, but was kind, playful, and gentle. She saw the best in everyone and was a tireless cheerleader for her loved ones. Her journey and her strong faith made her someone church members looked up to. She served on a number of committees at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Oconomowoc and pursued lifelong faith education through Bible study and prayer groups. She worked as a camp counselor, taught piano lessons to children and adults, and maintained lifelong friendships. Family and friends traveled from near and far to pay their respects in her final days.
Visitation will be from 12pm until memorial services at 1 PM on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at the First Congregational Church- UCC, 815 S Concord Road, Oconomowoc. Memorials to First Congregational UCC OC in Linda's memory would be her wish.
