This isn't a note of condolence; it's a tribute to a man who had an incredible sense of humor. It's also a belated tribute to his son, Mikey, who inherited that sense of humor; he said the funniest thing ANYONE has ever said to me. I was always excited when Asian Mart had steamed chicken buns - an occasional offering - and on this day I was visiting with Mikey and noticed chicken buns on the counter. "Ahhh ... chicken buns!" I exclaimed. "How did you know my stage name?!" Mikey responded. I hope he and his dad are laughing together once again.

I really only knew Carmelino as a customer, but he was always welcoming and in good humor. He introduced me to so many new foods! And, I always left with a smile after paying my bill in however many pennies it was. He will be missed

Carmelino was a joy to know. I really only knew him as a customer at his Asian Mart, but every time I went there, I left with a smile on my face... even if I spent 3,624 ... pennies. I thought about him often after the store closed, and I was absolutely delighted when I ran into him and his lovely wife Concepcion at another grocery store just a couple months ago. We chatted briefly ... then crossed paths again and I asked if they'd mind if I took their picture. They probably thought I was crazy but kindly said sure! I wanted to see if my husband and kids would recognize him. (my kids often accompanied me to the Asian Mart from a very young age on). They sure did! Looking back on that text now my husband immediately replied "10,000 pennies!" My youngest son said this ... "Cool. I remember his shop surprisingly well considering I don't remember most things from that age. The smells, the candies at checkout, and of course being told the bill in pennies" Thank you Carmelino - we will remember you always ... rest in peace. We offer our sincere condolences to the Capati family. Love, Donna & family
