Susan "Susie" Jane Heinzelman
September 24, 1942 - July 16, 2024

Susan "Susie" Jane Heinzelman, of Mequon, while surrounded by her loving family, went to be with the Lord on the morning of July 16, 2024, after a sudden decline in health. She was 81 years old.

Susie studied English at Marquette University graduating in 1964. She was a pillar of the community and devoted her career to teaching kindergarten at St. Cecilia & James for 25 years, 20 years of substitute teaching for the Mequon-Thiensville School District, and 30 years of tutoring. Her love for teaching was evident in her 52 years of helping children learn how to swim in her backyard pool. Susie was so proud to author “Splash into Safe Swimming,” a swimming book dedicated to the thousands of children who learned water safety and how to swim through her teachings, dedication, and patience.

Her love for family, friends, and children was endless. Susie adored her grandchildren with all her heart. Susie will be greatly missed and is survived by her five children, James (Stacey) Heinzelman, Holly Heinzelman, Jennifer Deutsch, Amy Stuhlmacher, and Megan Heinzelman, and her four grandchildren, Jack Stuhlmacher, Max Stuhlmacher, Kate Stuhlmacher, and Grace Bourbonais, along with many other dear friends and relatives. Welcoming her at the gates of heaven were her father, Joseph Schmit, and her mother, Jane Schmit.

Susie will forever be remembered for her radiant smile, her pink lipstick and nail polish, her love for swimming, her diet cokes, and her two favorite phrases: “God Bless You Always” and “I will love you to the moon & back a zillion times.”

Susie’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Lumen Christi Catholic Church, 2750 W. Mequon Road, Mequon, WI 53092. The family will greet friends and relatives at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 1:00 p.m. The family would like to thank and extend their heartfelt gratitude to Horizon’s Lawlis Family Hospice for their compassionate care and support during Susie’s final days.
