William J. "Bill" Spilger
November 12, 1932 - September 20, 2024
        

William (Bill) J. Spilger of Sussex passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 20, 2024, at the age of 91 years.  He was born in Los Angeles CA, to William J. Spilger and Wilma L. Spilger moving to Menomonee Falls WI and later settling in Sussex WI with the love of his life, Gladys R. (Wallschlaeger) Spilger in 1969.  Bill and Gladys were married June 20th, 1964, in Menomonee Falls WI.

Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.  He worked for AT&T for over 35 years and even after retirement he continued working and donating his time through the Sussex Lions Club, Telephone Pioneers of WI, EAA and other various organizations.  He was an avid fan of all Wisconsin sports. Brewers, Packers, Badgers, Bucks, Admirals and NASCAR. 

He was always working on his hobbies of building planes, trains, car models, and puzzles.  He was a collector of anything planes, trains, and automobiles.  Bill loved traveling, going on cruises, and traveling to other states to visit family and friends.  Some to include the Indianapolis 500, Brewers Spring Training, NHL hockey and multiple NASCAR racing events.

He will be sadly missed by his daughters, Sheryl (Chris) Welter and Katherine (Casey) Spilger, and granddaughter Kyra Welter.  He is further survived by nieces, Suzanne Luebbe and Sandra Steiner, other relatives and friends.  Bill was preceded in death by his wife Gladys, his parents, his brother Don and sister Judi.

A visitation for Bill will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. at Schmidt & Bartelt funeral home in Sussex (W250 N6505 Hwy 64 Sussex).  Prayer service will be held beginning at 7:00 pm. 

A viewing prior to the funeral service for Bill will be held Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 9:00am until 9:45 am at Peace Lutheran Church, W240 N6145 Maple Ave. Sussex, WI 53089. The funeral service will begin at 10:00am.  Entombment will follow at Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family, Sussex Lions or Telephone Pioneers of WI would be appreciated.
