Of Merton, WI. Born to Eternal Life October 23 at the age of 91. Beloved husband of Ruth (nee Rogne) for 61 years. Loving dad of Julia (James) Millard, Jim (Sherri) and Jeff. Proud grandpa of Eric, Elizabeth (Amee), Sofi (Adam), Ella and Jeffrey and great-grandpa of Wilder. Brother of Becky Shedd and Sara Conrow. Further survived by other family and friends.

Preceded in death by his sister LeElla Balliet and brothers Paul, John Thiel, Dan Thiel, Rick Thiel and David Thiel.

Barney proudly served in the United States Navy as a dental technician during the Korean War. He was a supervisor and chairman of the Merton Town Board, a member of the Merton Board of Review and the Merton Planning Commision, as well as a member of the North Lake School Board. After retiring from MGIC, he enjoyed his hobby jobs at Kopp’s Custard, ACE Hardware and also as a volunteer at the Waukesha County Historical Society. He enjoyed woodworking, stained glass, playing cards, spending time with his gym rats and remodeling his lake cottage into a year round home for his family.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home in Menomonee Falls Tuesday, October 29 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow at Lisbon Central Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to ADRC of Waukesha.
