Dalton, Mary (nee Schureman)
Mary passed peacefully at home surrounded by family on November 20, 2024 at the age of 97. Devoted mom of James (Marilyn) Dalton, Deborah (the late Lon) Crane, and the late Susan Holloway. Very proud grandma of Charles (Teresa) Dalton, John (Tracy) Dalton, Alison (Mark) Radigan, Elisabeth (Jon) Berndt, Leslie (Juan) Garcia, Alex Crane, the late Katrina Holloway and Kendall Holloway. Great-grandma of Abigail, Elliot, Franklin, John, Patrick, Audrey, Erwin, Sophie and Zoey. Sister of the late Charles E. Schureman. Further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mary was born in Sheboygan, WI, and moved with her parents Charles B. and Lucy Schureman to the family farm in Green Valley, IL. Gifted with perfect pitch, she began playing piano at 5 years old and began a lifelong career as a church organist at 12 years old. She attended Hanover College in Indiana, where she majored in music and organ studies and met her husband, Donald. Their family eventually settled in Brookfield, Wisconsin, where for decades Mary remained actively involved with Brookfield Presbyterian Church, local historical societies, and her eight grandchildren. Mary also shared her musical talents through her trio, Lyrical Connection, and with countless students, friends, and family school contests and events. Later in life, she moved to Dickson Hollow Retirement Community, where she was instrumental in the creation of Living Hope Presbyterian Church and continued as a church and special occasions pianist through 97 years of age. She enjoyed many friends there; most of all, Walter Stumpf, who remained her committed and devoted companion until her death.
A visitation will be held on Saturday December 7, 2024 at Living Hope Presbyterian Church, W156 N4881 Pilgrim Rd. in Menomonee Falls, from 12:30pm until time of memorial service at 2pm.
Memorials to Living Hope Presbyterian Church or the Agape House would be greatly appreciated.
