Janet stamped her passport for the last time on 3/19/2025. She began her life above O.L. Schilffarth, a printing and lithography company located on 4th and Brown in Milwaukee. She was the daughter of Otto L. and Lydia (nee Neipp) Schilffarth. She was the oldest of three children, Otto L. Schilffarth III and Delores Schilffarth, both deceased.
Janet was 9 when she was bitten by the travel bug. In 1933 her father took the family in a Studebaker across the US to Estes Park, Colorado. After that trip, she never stopped traveling. She preferred going off the beaten path and loved seeing how people really lived in the countries she visited. Luckily, in 1949 she married Calvin Grove Wolfe from Dayton, Ohio (deceased) who shared her love of adventure. All in all, she has visited 193 countries, some of which no longer exist. What started when she was 9 continued when Janet had her own family. Great family memories include: dancing with her grandson in New Orleans, trying to speak Russian to a man who spoke perfect English, white sandy beaches in Baku, Mead Night in Scotland, a “family discussion” in the Gold Coast, DIY walking tours, the After China surprise, sharing beers with her grandson in Germany, the Chu Chi tunnels in Vietnam and various other laughs and adventures.
Her love of travel was also the reason she became a teacher and became fluent in 4 languages. She began her teaching career in Beaver Dam as a Spanish Teacher. She spent most of her career at MPS teaching 5th grade at Congress School. After retiring from the MPS, she taught at Yeshiva, an orthodox Jewish school in Milwaukee.
Janet was also well known for her passionate love of cookies and being a member of the Red Hats Society. She liked her coffee scalding and her food hot. Her other hobbies included wine making and writing to pen pals. At one time she had over 300 people she wrote to from all over the globe.
Her favorite thing to do on Saturdays was to go out for breakfast and her favorite place to be was at Park Place Café. Janet loved the food, the atmosphere, the hot coffee, the terrific staff and owners and especially the wonderful friends she made. She felt at home and considered everyone her second family.
Janet is survived by her daughter, Candi Wolfe-McNaughtan, her favorite (and only) son-in-law Dan McNaughtan, her wonderful grandson Sean and his fiancée Samantha (Sam) Becker. She is also survived by family in Ohio and Germany, as well as her very special friends.
A very special thanks to the Horizon Hospice Care Nurses, especially Maria and volunteer Julie.
