Cecile Louise (née Sherburne) Smith age 93, gained her Eternal Reward on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, surrounded by family. Cile will be missed by her loving family, her children, Monica (Daniel) Tighe, Julie (Paul) Burg and David Smith; her 6 grandchildren, Daniel (Bridget) Tighe, Katherine (Spencer) Greaves, Claire (Alex) Duffy, Andrew Engel, Nicholas Engel (partner Katie Neubauer), Robert (Shannon) Engel and her 5 great-grandchildren; James, Mary and Tripp Tighe, and Charles and Patrick Greaves. In addition to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she will be dearly missed by her devoted nieces and nephews and her many friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Robert Smith; her siblings, MaryClare (Charles) Rogers, Robert (Grace) Sherburne, Sr. Mary Francele Sherburne, SSND, William (Jeanne) Sherburne, Fr. Richard Sherburne, SJ; her parents, Frank and Cecile Sherburne (née LeBoeuf).
While raising her three children, Cile was active in her parish and the community: serving as Christ King Christian Women President, Girl Scout Leader and various Church Ministries. As a member of The Christ Child Society, Cile received The Red Shoe Service Award and continued to serve at The Christ Child Society resale and boutique shop, Ronald McDonald House Charities, St. John’s Center, Prevent Blindness Children’s Vision Screening, and the Guadalupe Center. As her children grew older, she returned to her graduate field of teaching at Our Lady of Sorrows School in Milwaukee and continued to serve as a tutor for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee in her retirement. Cherished were her moments with family and friends, be it playing bridge or dominoes, planning family get togethers, spending time at the lake, attending grandchildren’s sporting events and recitals or quietly reading to her great grandchildren. Her friendly and unassuming manner and faithful dependability, service and leadership will be forever treasured.
A proud alumna of St. Robert’s Elementary School, Holy Angels Academy and Mount Mary College, Cile valued education and Christian values. In lieu of flowers, Memorials in her name to Divine Savior Holy Angels High School would be appreciated. https://www.dsha.info/support-dsha
