Ronald George O’Bryon entered his eternal home in heaven the evening of June 13, 2025. He was 83 years old. He was born on August 24, 1941, the son of George and Marguerite O’Bryon.
Ron grew up in Eldora, Iowa, and graduated from Eldora High School in 1959. He completed his Bachelor of Theology degree in 1964 at Baptist Bible Seminary in Johnson City, New York. It was there that he met his wife, Helen Betts, and following graduate work at Dallas Theological Seminary, they were married in the summer of 1965. That union would have celebrated 60 years in August.
In December of 1965, he accepted a call to pastor the First Baptist Church of Shell Rock, Iowa in his home State. In 1970 he became Pastor to Portage Avenue Baptist Church in Portage, Indiana. He also pursued graduate work at Grace Theological Seminary in Warsaw, Indiana.
The summer of 1977 took him back to Iowa to become the Field Representative for Faith Baptist Bible College. He traveled for the school and conducted banquets looking for “friends, funds, and freshmen!” In 1981 Continental Baptist Missions in Grand Rapids, Michigan, invited him to become the Director of Development.
Enjoying his work there, but desiring to return to the pastorate, he accepted the call to Ladysmith Baptist Church in Ladysmith, situated in northern Wisconsin on the Flambeau River. He was fulfilled in giving the Word of God to the congregation and in the community. He also created many memories with his three sons, being in “hunting and fishing” territory. It was during this time that he traveled on a gospel missions trip to Russia.
Ministries following Ladysmith included being a men’s Bible teacher, visitation, evangelism, discipleship, and traveling with a Missions team from Baptist College of Ministry to the Philippines.
God laid upon Ron’s heart an unshakable desire to plant a church in Manitowoc, WI. In September 2006, he began a Bible Study in the Community Library. A large church facility became available, and in October of 2006 Manitowoc Baptist Church was started. Nineteen years later, on June 8, 2025, Ron participated in his last service there. He fulfilled his lifelong desire to share the Word of God until God took him home.
Ron was a man dedicated to and faithful in serving the Lord. He met the challenges of life with a deep-rooted faith that God was in control of the circumstances. He had an easy smile and a great sense of humor. He was a faithful, loving husband and father. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He prayed daily for each one by name.
He cared deeply for people and where they would spend eternity. He was faithful and unashamed to share the good news of salvation: God offers forgiveness of sin and eternity in heaven to all who place their faith in Jesus Christ and His loving sacrifice.
He invested his life in two things that last forever: the Word of God and the souls of men. He led a multitude of people to faith in Christ throughout his lifetime. We will miss him immensely, but we are comforted knowing he is now in paradise!
He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Margurite O’Bryon, and a still born son, Victor O’Bryon.
Ron is survived by wife, Helen, three sons, Shaun O’Bryon (Jennifer), Nathan O’Bryon (Rebecca), Brandon O’Bryon (Ruth), eighteen grandchildren: Alyssa, Elayna, Ilyse, Brent, Grant, Austin, Justin, Colin, Trentin, Olivia, Genevieve, Marin, Emma, McKinsey, Christian, Esther, Chloe, Brandon and five great grandchildren: Aria, Ennaly, Lilia, Dakota, and Jameson; a sister, Barbara Turner, and a brother, Roger O’Bryon (Ruth).
Funeral services will be held at Falls Baptist Church N69W12703 Appleton Avenue, Menomonee Falls, WI, 53051 on Saturday, June 21, 2025. Viewing will begin at 1:00 p.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m.
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” Romans 1:16
