Betty Lou Mindemann
December 15, 1928 - June 21, 2025

Betty found peace on June 21, 2025 at the age of 96. Born to Stanley Fuller Sr and Marie Fuller (Roberts) in Shiocton, WI. When Betty was 8 years old, she was staying with her grandparents and became sick with scarlet fever. Shortly afterwards she also became infected with polio and spent two years at the Children's Hospital in Milwaukee, WI. When she was finally able to come home from the hospital her parents had purchased a house and relocated to Sussex, WI. Betty spent 76 years in Sussex and 10 years in Pewaukee prior to her death.

Betty was visiting her friend Marian Mindemann after school one day when it started to rain. Betty was walking her bike back to Sussex when Reuben Mindemann drove by in his farm truck. He loaded her bike in his truck and told Betty he was going to marry her one day. They were both 16 years old at the time. Betty and Reuben married on November 6, 1948.

Betty loved the outdoors and nature. She spent most of her children's early childhood in the Mindemann farm woods. She enjoyed gardening, swimming and loved animals. When going through her personal belongings the family found a list of fifteen dogs Betty and Reuben had as beloved pets over the years.

Betty a member of Zion Evangelical Church (today Redeemer United Church of Christ), was superintendent of the Sunday School for 10 years and, as a member of the choir for 35 years, sang at most funerals held at the church. Betty and Reuben made substantial contributions through the years in support of the church.

Always involved in the community she became the founding director of the Sussex Emergency Food Pantry and annual fundraising chair. A position held for 10 years until 1991. She helped raise financial support for the Sussex library and subsequent Lisbon Pauline Haass Public Library, later donating her large book collection of antique research, appraising, and collecting.

Betty, owner of Mindy’s Antiques from 1960 – 2010 in Sussex, WI, a business she started in the family barn, then expanded into her home. A self-taught antiquitarian, she attained a graduate degree in antiques in 1968 and became an accredited appraiser for estates. Her ancestry going back to early Massachusetts, led her to specialize in early American antiques, 1700’s -1800’s. On the board of the Waukesha County Historical Society, she volunteered many hours to the biannual WCHS Antique Appraisal Day fundraising event. A service she often did for community organizations. Her love of history developed into co-founding the Sussex-Lisbon Area Historical Society, opening in 2004, where she directed many of the exhibitions.

Close friendships developed over antiques which she referred to as her “kindred spirits”. She loved traveling with her husband, family, or friends, together on trips to Pennsylvania purchasing antiques from her favorite “pickers”, frequent trips to Branson, Mo, or places around the world. The friends often traveled with her, advertising her shop and selling antiques at several large shows in Nashville and the Midwest.

Betty loved Christmas at home with her extended family, spending time with her family and friends, and sharing laughter with everyone she knew.

Betty is preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Reuben Mindemann, her son-in-law Victor Hoard, her parents, three brothers Boyd Fuller, Gary Fuller and Stanley Fuller Jr and her sister Sharon Metcalf. She is survived by her son Richard Mindemann (Leslie) of Sullivan, WI and daughter Pamela Hoard of Madison, WI, her brother Jim Fuller, sister Sandy (Dennis) Lederer and sister Gail Fuller, her 4 grandchildren Jason Mindemann, Andrew (Leah) Mindemann, Aric (Kory) Mindemann, Christine (Robert) Newbegin, and 8 great-grandchildren.

Service will be held Saturday, June 28th, at Redeemer United Church of Christ, Townline Rd., Menomonee Falls. Visitation from 2:00 to 4:00 with a service to follow at 4:00pm.

Betty will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you make donations to “Mindy’s Fund”, a veterinary support program she started in memory of her beloved “Mindy”, Animal Clinic in Sussex, N64W24280 Main St., Sussex, WI 53089 or Redeemer United Church of Christ, W220N4915 Townline Rd., Menomonee Falls, WI 53051.
