Al Foerster joined his beloved wife, Sofie, in eternal life on July 7, 2025—just three days shy of his 95th birthday. Born on July 10, 1930, in Germany, Al was one of ten children and the last surviving sibling of a large and close-knit family.
On June 19, 1951, Al married the love of his life, Sofie Engelke, in Beckedorf, Germany. Together, they immigrated to the United States in 1956 to build a better life, first settling in Milwaukee before moving to Richfield in 1964. There, they planted roots—both literally and figuratively—founding the family farm on Pleasant Hill Road that became the heart of their home and legacy.
Al was a hardworking and passionate man. He established Al Foerster and Sons Roofing, a business built on integrity and determination. But it was the land—farming, nurturing the earth, and working alongside his family—that truly brought him joy. His deep love of the farm and the rhythms of country life defined much of who he was.
Al is survived by his three children: Juergen Foerster (Mary Beth), Detlef Foerster (Gloria) and Diane Kramer (née Foerster) and her husband Don Kramer. He was a proud grandfather to: Corey Foerster and Ben Foerster (children of Juergen), Andrea Moser, Melissa Shneyder, and Seth Foerster (children of Detlef) and Max Kramer and Noah Kramer (children of Diane). His legacy lives on through his cherished great-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Hannah, Charlie, and Sophia Foerster; Roman and Sylvia Moser; Jackson and Dylan Shneyder andEvan Foerster.
A special bond was shared with his youngest grandchildren, Max and Noah Kramer, who lovingly cared for their grandfather and brought joy and companionship to his later years. For the past 25 years, Diane’s children shared an especially close relationship with their “Grandpa,” offering not only their presence, but their hands and hearts in service and love. Their deep connection was a source of comfort, laughter, and meaning during the final chapters of his life.
Al will be remembered for his quiet strength, deep devotion to family, and unshakable connection to the land he loved. His story is one of resilience, hard work, and the enduring bonds of family.
