Joyce Violet Kasten, 97, of Wauwatosa, died at home on Monday, February 2, 2026, confident of her promised Eternal Heavenly home with Christ, Her Savior.
She was born August 2, 1928 to Florence (Knop) and Walter Kuhlman of Detroit Michigan. Joyce married Horst H. Kasten in 1949 as he entered seminary for Pastoral ministry in the Lutheran Church. They served churches in Canada, Michigan and Illinois. Joyce taught Sunday School, directed Christmas programs, and was active in the leadership of Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She also participated in mission trips to Puerto Rich, Mexico, Texas and South Dakota; Joyce walked with The Lord daily, modeling Christian love.
One of Joyce's service highlights was starting "Call for Action", a volunteer service on a local Davenport, Iowa TV station, designed to help consumers resolve disputes with businesses. Joyce appeared on television related to complaints, disputes, scams and fraud. She was Director for five years and helped recover hundreds of thousands of dollars in goods and services. She received the "Governor's Volunteer Award" from Iowa Governor Branstad in 1998.
Joyce is survived by three children: Karen, Paul, and Philip, and two grandchildren, Mark and Gavin. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Horst, her son Karl, her grandson Steven, her brother Kenneth and sister Joanne.
Services will be held at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 5301 W. Washington Blvd., Milwaukee, at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 6, and on Saturday, February 7, at Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church, 84th & Center, Milwaukee, at 2:00 PM, with Visitation from 1:00-2:00 PM.
Memorial gifts may be made to Milwaukee Hunger Task Force and to Mt Olive Lutheran School, Milwaukee.
Joyce served the Lord by serving others. She frequently opined, 'Only one life, twill soon be past. Only what's done for Christ will last.'
